It is often the entrapment of the anterior cutaneous branch of the intercostal nerve (ACNES). 75% of ACNES occurs to young women and it manifests as a stabbing ,piercing abdominal pain. Additional symptom suggesting ACNES is perceptible muscle tenderness at the site of a pain. Risk factors of this syndrome are past pregnancy, caesarean section, surgery and trauma.

The diagnosis is based on:

  • patient’s medical history,
  • result of the radiologic examination ,
  • patient’s response to a diagnostic block with local anesthetic.

Treatment:

  • conservative treatment,
  • steroid injection,
  • nerve hydrodissection.

Dr. Marcin Goczewski performs diagnostic block, nerve hydrodissection and steroid block only under ultrasound guidance.
