Tennis Elbow
Tennis elbow also known as a lateral epicondylitis is the condition that causes pain around the outside of the elbow.
It is a chronic inflammation of the wrist extensor tendons at the point they attach onto lateral epicondyle of humerus. With progression of the disease the structure of the extensor tendons becomes degenerative with development of scars, ruptures, calcifications and spurs.
Symptoms of tennis elbow:
- pain on the outside of the elbow,
- pain starts at the elbow but then may radiate to the forearm,
- general weakness in the wrist,
- tenderness over lateral epicondyle,
- elbow stiffness,
Diagnosis:
The diagnosis is mainly based on patient’s history , symptoms, and physical examination . Sometimes it is recommended to perform an X-ray , MRI and ultrasound.
Conservative treatment:
- rehabilitation,
- shock waves,
- anti-inflammatory medications.
Interventions:
- steroid block,
- prolotherapy,
- dry needling,
- PRP,
