Piriformis Muscle Syndrome Injection

Piriformis Muscle Syndrome Injection

Piriformis muscle syndrome manifests as a pain in the buttock which may radiate also along the course of the sciatic nerve.

The pain intensifies when sitting or riding a bicycle, it is caused by a compression of the sciatic nerve by the piriformis muscle. It is estimated that the piriformis muscle syndrome is responsible for about 6% of gluteal complaints. The initial stage of treatment consists of taking anti-inflammatory drugs, also rehabilitation is recommended. When conservative treatment fails, steroid injection can solve the problem.

Dr. Marcin Goczewski performs the piriformis muscle steroid block only under ultrasound guidance in order to increase the chance of successful therapy and minimize the risk of complications.
