The quadratus lumborum muscle can be a cause of lumbar pain.
This diagnosis is not often even considered by doctors, and very frequently overlooked. The quadratus lumborum syndrome is a kind of myofascial pain syndrome. The muscle tenderness and the presence of trigger points in the quadratus lumborum area are the characteristic features of this disease entity. At the beginning conservative treatment is helpful, in an advanced stage prolotherapy can be very effective.
Symptoms that may indicate the quadratus lumborum syndrome:
- deep lumbar region pain intensifying when standing and sitting,
- support for the lumbar area with your arms during exercise,
