Achilles Tendon Ultrasound
The Achilles tendon connects the calf muscles to the calcaneus and plays a very important role in the process of movement.
Its the largest tendon in the human body, prone to sports injuries. The Achilles tendon arises from the gastrcnemius and the soleus muscles creating one band of tissue which becomes the Achilles tendon.
Anatomical structures we assess:
- calcaneal tuberosity,
- Kager’s fat pad,
- Achilles tendon,
- Achilles bursae,
- posterior ankle joint recess.
Indications for Achilles tendon examination:
- sports injury,
- Achilles tendon pain,
- ankle swelling,
- limited ankle joint movement.
Preparing for the examination:
There are no special demands.
