Trigger Finger

Trigger Finger

Trigger finger also known as stenosing tenosinovitis is a disease of tendons leading to pain, dysfunction and locking of affected fingers.

Tha cause of the disease is an inflammation of finger’s tendon sheath leading to narrowing the space within the sheath. It disturbs the smooth tendon gliding due to mechanical impingement expecially at the level of the A1 annular pulley.

Risk factors:

  • diabetes and rheumatoid arthritis in patient’s history,
  • age, trigger finger more often affects patients over 40,
  • gender, trigger finger is more common in women,
  • trigger finger may be a complication associated with carpal tunnel syndrome surgery.

Treatment:

  • rehabilitation,
  • steroid block,
  • surgery.

An innovative method of trigger finger treatment is the release of A1 annular pulley with the needle under ultrasound guidance. First we assess the A1 pulley location and then we puncture dynamically the pulley until the pulley is cut and tendon is released. It leads to patient’s recovery. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia.

Dr, Goczewski performs A1 pulley release only under ultrasound guidance.
