Trochanteric Bursa Injection

Trochanteric Bursa Injection

Trochanteric bursae are a kind of thin space between anatomical structures of the hip that allow for reduction of friction during movement.

The most common causes of trochanteric bursa inflammation are hip overuse and injuries.

Trochanteric bursae can also get inflamed due to to the following conditions:

  • presence of calcification inside the tendons,
  • tendons tear,
  • tendinosis,
  • osteoarthritis,
  • iliotibial band syndrome,
  • some systemic diseases.

Symptoms:

Trochanteric bursitis manifests as a pain on the lateral side of the hip with accompanying symptoms of inflammation.

Treatment:

In the case of the failure of conservative treatment, depending on the cause of a trochanteric bursa inflammation we perform different interventional procedures:

  • steroid block,
  • prolotherapy,
  • dry needling,
  • Platelet Rich Plasma Injection (PRP).

Dr. Marcin Goczewski performs all mentioned above interventions only under ultrasound guidance in order to increase the chance of successful therapy and minimize the risk of complications.
