De Quervain Tenosinovitis

De Quervain tenosinovitis is a chronic painful condition that affects the tendons of the abductor pollicis longus and the extensor pollicis brevis muscles.

The symptoms of De Quervain tenosinovitis:

  • pain at the base of the thumb,
  • swelling near the base of the thumb,
  • numbness along the thumb,
  • snapping,

The diagnosis is based on patient’s history , physical and ultrasound examinations. Studies suggest that pregnancy, rheumathoid arthritis and trauma may be the risk factor for the development of De Quervain tenosinovitis.

Treatment:

  • anti-inflammatory medications,
  • rehabilitation,
  • steroid injection and hialuronic acid injection,
  • surgery,
