Postherpetic Neuralgia

Postherpetic Neuralgia

Postherpetic neuralgia is the most common complication of shingles.

It is a kind of neuropathic pain which appears due to damage of peripheral nerve caused by the reactivation of the virus. The pain is described as strong, piercing , stabbing and sharp. Studies suggest that diabetes, old age and decrease of immune system may be the risk factor for the development of postherpetic neuralgia. Treatment of postherpatic neuralgia is not easy.

Treatment:

  • anti-inflammatory medications,
  • anti-seizure drugs,
  • antidepressants,
  • opioids,
  • transcutaneus electrical nerve stimulation ( TENS),

The alternative method of treatment of postherpetic neuralgia is perineural injections with buffered glucose called Perineural Injection Treatment developed by Dr John Lyftogt. It is a very safe and effective therapy.

Dr.Goczewski applies Perineural Injection Treatment for postherpetic neuralgia with good results.
