Shoulder Bursitis
Shoulder Bursitis
Subacromial bursa is a thin anatomical structure that allows for reduction of friction during shoulder movement.
Shoulder bursitis is a condition caused by inflammation of the bursa. The most common causes of bursa inflammation are shoulder injuries and shoulder overuse. When the bursa gets irritated, it becomes inflamed, giving following symptoms:
Symptoms:
- pain on the outside of the shoulder,
- reduced range of motion in the shoulder joint,
- discomfort when lying on the shoulder,
- pain gets worse during shoulder abduction.
Shoulder pathologies that can mimic shoulder bursitis:
- frozen shoulder,
- acromio-clavicular joint inflammation.
Diagnosis:
It is very important to know the patient’s history, very helpful are specific shoulder maneuvers and radiological examinations, an X-ray, CT, MRI and ultrasound.
Conservative treatment:
- anti-inflammatory medications,
- rehabilitation.
Interventions:
- steroid injection,
- hialuronic acid injection.
Dr. Marcin Goczewski performs all mentioned above interventions under ultrasound guidance.
