Sacroiliac Joint Block

Sacroiliac Joint Block

Impact of sacroiliac joint dysfunction on lumbar pain is a main subject  of many scientific researches.

Having performed a diagnostic block it turned out that sacroiliac joint dysfunction is a pain generator for 10-27% patients with sacro-lumbar pain. Sacroiliac joint consists of two bones, sacrum and ilium. It helps to stabilize the spine and the pelvis girdle and also acts as a shock absorber while walking.

Strong ligaments and muscles take part in stabilization of the sacroiliac joint. The sacroiliac joint mobility is very limited to minor movements.

Symptoms of sacroiliac joint dysfunction are:

  • pain of sacro-lumbar region, sometimes radiating to the buttocks,
  • morning stiffness,
  • sometimes fever.

Diagnosis of sacroiliac joint dysfunction is based on history, manual diagnostic tests, radiologic examination and diagnostic block result.

Dr. Marcin Goczewski performs diagnostic block and steroid block. Both procedures are only performed under ultrasound guidance,to ensure precise medicine injection to joint space and to minimize the risk of complications.
