Shoulder Pain
Shoulder Pain
The shoulder joint connects the arm with the chest.
It consist of a ball and socket glenohumeral joint and acromioclavicular joint. The glenohumeral joint is considered to be the most mobile and least stable joint in the human body. The glenohumeral joint is surrounded by a very loose joint capsule separating the joint form the rotator cuff muscles. These four muscles take part in the process of joint movement. The rotator cuff is covered by a very thin structure called the bursa. The bursa allows for reduction of friction during movement. It is also the space for fluid collection in the case of shoulder pathology. The shoulder joint is innervated by the axillary nerve and the suprascapular nerve.
All described anatomical structures can be the cause of shoulder pain.
