Hematoma Aspiration
Hematoma Aspiration
A hematoma usually arises as a result of injury or blood coagulation disorders.
The fresh blood collection undergoes organization and is slowly absorbed afterwards. Such a process may take several months. Evacuation of the hematoma significantly accelerates the healing process and shortens the recovery time in patients doing sport. It is important to evacuate the hematoma before the hematoma organization process begins.
Preparation of the patient for the procedure:
The patient should inform the doctor about the medications he takes and about his general state of health.
Indications for hematoma aspiration:
- fresh hematoma of a large size,
- hematoma in athletes to reduce recovery period,
- hematoma hindering joint mobility.
Contraindications:
- lack of cooperation between the patient and the doctor,
- old hematoma well organized,
- coagulation disorders,
- infection at a puncture site,
- general poor condition of the patient.
What does the procedure entail?
The procedure can be performed with anesthesia. The skin is disinfected and then the needle is inserted inside the hematoma collection in order to aspirate its contents . The procedure is performed under ultrasound guidance. A dressing is applied after a needle withdrawal.
Complications after the procedure:
The treatment is very safe. At the site of injection signs of infection may periodically appear.
Dr. Marcin Goczewski performs hematoma aspiration only under ultrasound guidance to ensure precise medicine injection and reduce the risk of complications.
