Knee osteoarthritis is the common cause of knee pain.
Accompanying symptoms are the limitation of the range of motion and swelling. Because of knee osteoarthritis the quality of life will get worse. It is considered now that knee osteoarthritis affects all knee structures like cartilage, menisci, ligaments and synovium. Studies suggest that obesity, poor posture, age, knee instability , genetic factors may be the risk factor for knee osteoarthritis.
Diagnosis:
Diagnosis is based on patient’s history, orthopedic tests and radiological examinations. The goal of the treatment is improvement of life quality, increasing range of motion, decreasing the pain, decreasing dosage of drugs.
Conservaitve treatment:
- anti-inflammatory drugs,
- rehabilitation.
Interventions:
- hialuronic acid injection,
- steroid injection,
- PRP injection,
- nerve hydrodissection.
Studies confirm that weight reduction, aerobic training, diet may be the benefit factor for knee treatment. Sometimes surgery is needed.
